Welcome
Hello, and welcome to my page. I’m a political scientist at the University of North Texas. I received my PhD from the University of Florida in 2001, and then served as an American Political Science Association Congressional Fellow. I have been a faculty member at UNT since fall 2002.
I am interested in how ethno-religious identities shape elite political attitudes and behaviors. In a recent book with Brian Calfano and Melissa Michelson, we assess the role of clergy as political elites, but I generally focus on legislators and their responsiveness to religious constituencies and identities. I teach a pretty broad range of classes, but I most frequently offer Introductory American Government, Religion and Politics, and U.S. Congress.
I'm the current editor-in-chief of the journal Politics and Religion.
