Welcome

Hello, and welcome to my page.  I am a professor of political science and faculty director of academic policy at the University of North Texas (UNT). I formerly served as unit administrator (chair) on UNT’s Frisco branch campus. As faculty director, I am currently leading an effort to review all academic policies from an anti-racist perspective, supporting dissemination of COACHE survey results, and institutionalizing a system of advocacy for faculty going through promotion, tenure, and reappointment processes.

My research investigates religion and legislative policymaking and political activism among clergy, as well as teaching and learning in political science. My work has appeared in The Forum, Journal of Political Science Education, Journal of the Social Scientific Study of Religion, and Politics and Religion, and I am author of Uncompromising Positions: God, Sex, and the U.S. House of Representatives (Washington, DC: Georgetown University Press, 2005).

I teach across the political science curriculum and am recipient of numerous teaching awards. I was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship for teaching and research at University College Cork, Ireland, in 2010, and an American Political Science Association Congressional Fellowship in 2001-2002. Finally, I just completed a five-year term as editor-in-chief of the journal Politics and Religion.
